Lord Young of Norwood Green, Minister for Postal Affairs and Employment Relations, today visited the Michael Beetham Conservation Centre (MBCC) at Royal Air Force Museum Cosford.
During his visit, Lord Young was given a tour of the Museum’s Conservation Centre and took time to meet and speak with the apprentices, in his capacity as Minister for Employment Relations. He was particularly interested in highlighting his support for apprenticeship schemes.
The Royal Air Force Museum Apprenticeship scheme, now in its fourth successful year, provides a work-based training and development for 16–24 year olds who have left full-time education. Two days a week are spent at college and three days are spent in the workplace.
Today was also the first day for two new apprentices; Mr Martin Purcell-Shaw and Mr Nathan Pugh, both from Telford. They will be mentored through their five year scheme by the newly appointed MBCC Training Manager, Michael Shepherd.
The MBCC is committed to preserving Aviation Heritage through its conservation of aircraft and associated exhibits, whilst recognising the need to ensure that unique skills are retained, nurtured and developed amongst the younger generation in respect of fostering ongoing aircraft conservation efforts for the foreseeable future.
The Royal Air Force Museum Cosford is open daily 10am – 6pm (last admission 5pm). Admission is FREE.
